Resurgent Medvedev Claims First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is his first trophy after the Rome competition and initial on a hard court from that period of the previous year.

Victory also indicates he has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to create a decider.

Moutet saved four early-game break points in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
