During an initial day in the mayor's office, Zohran Mamdani vowed to “reinvent” America's largest city, ushering in “a new era” and an audacious start to his tenure.

The young political star, who was a relatively obscure state assemblyman, now stands as the city's first Muslim mayor. He additionally marked a milestone by being the inaugural to be take the oath of office using the Islamic holy text.
